Do you know your target buyers name?

Probably not, but these days you can get a bunch of useful information about him/her. What his buying habits are, how much money he makes and even what he wants to buy next.

Let’s start with who this buyer ‘may be’. Around how old he is, what does he like to do, where would he look for your product, etc. Think of who frequently visits your business. There is a pattern, just think about it. Write down the questions that they frequently ask. Keep this as a running list that even employees can add to.

Your current clients that are loyal customers should be asked about their needs/concerns. Reward them with a small gift or service. This will make them feel special and offer you valuable insight. Document everything.

Are their any inside jokes about you or your competitors? I heard a ADT alarm system joke that everyone said stood for “Any Damn Thing”. If this were my company, I would want to get to the bottom of this ‘joke’. It’s surely costing them money.

Next you’ll want to make a list of your top competitors and what they offer that is better than you. This step is about dominating the competition, not just being a tiny bit better. How can you incorporate more of what they offer AND make a heftier profit? Is there a premium product or service level?

Once you know so much about the target, they won’t be able to resist buying from you. You’ll be the only one that truly ‘get’s him’ and takes the time to tailor the experience.

The top ways to get traffic to your site.

You’re probably wondering what’s most effective way to get a ton of traffic to your site. The problem is that not one method, but a cross section of methods is what will bring the traffic pouring in.

Here a a few of the top ways of getting traffic to your site.

Pay-per-click or PPC. Which means you write a small ad and submit to Google,Bing or Msn. Every time your ad is clicked you pay a fee. Very cool because you can turn the traffic right on like a faucet. The downside is that most of the ads lose money and this can happen fast if you don’t know what you are doing.

Online newsletter/blog/ezine. They all serve the same purpose. Keep the customer informed and coming back for more information and to buy more. Invite them back to your site through email and they’ll see what cool new things your company is doing.

Search engine Optimization or SEO. With SEO there are several ways to optimize your site for search engines using sitemaps that can be easily read by Google. There are even certain web site platforms known to be preferred in search. This is a long term tactic that should be tweaked and monitored so that it grows over time.

Linking. Links can take time to develop, but are definitely worth the effort. When you have relevant links pointing from authority sites to your site, it can push you UP in the search. Which means your site is viewed as more important. Links from places like Digg, Squidoo and even links within your site – all help.

Social Media Marketing. Target your ideal client on social media sites. These newer social sites like Facebook and Twitter allow you to build a fan base for your site very quickly. Start a fan page on Facebook for your business, interact and gain exposure for your site. Twitter will allow you to “tweet” helpful tips to followers and build an email list too.

Viral Marketing. Out of all the methods, I think this one can be the most fun. Create a short video for youtube that will grab attention. A video that used exploding milk, forwarded people to a vegan website to get on their email list. Think creative, fun and short.

Article Marketing. There are article databases that the search engines hold in high regard. The articles are not just placed on the site, but others can use them for their site or newsletter(they have to leave your info on the article) which will give you more traffic. Articles take time to produce but are proven to keep traffic coming in for years.

These are just a few of the ways to generate traffic. Start with one, master it, track your results and move on to add another one. Together these methods are very effective for tons of traffic to your site. Choose one to start and have at it.

When you first thought of starting a business or came up with a good idea that could make money – the process was just beginning.

  • How would you get the right vendors?
  • Who will you work with?
  • When will this thing make me some money?

Someone won’t just walk up to you and say “Hey, here’s your business plan and all the contacts you’ll need, now go make money.”

Internet marketing is no different. There are a ton of websites that will offer you a “magic bullet” to success on the internet. You’ve seen the offers. Just sign up here to get email leads. They won’t mention it’s a crap list of non-targeted buyers.

Your strategy has to be well thought out. You need targeted buyers that look for you. Buyers that are on your email list because they feel you offer them value. What will that value be? Good question. Start there, because that will be a very large part of your internet marketing strategy.

Of course, you want to sell more, make more money, retire, etc. However online is similar to your offline process. They need to know you first. Make it easy for them. Ask yourself the following:

What can I offer that will start out or build a relationship of value?

  • A report on your potential clients most frequently asked questions.
  • A short survey to find out their needs.
  • A video on how to use your product properly.

These are just a few suggestions to get you thinking strategy, versus throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks.

We use keywords everyday as we search the internet. Looking for a pipe fitter in Las Vegas? We go to Google, Yahoo or Bing.com and we enter the keywords “Las Vegas Pipe Fitter” into the search bar. A bunch of results related to our search term or “keywords” are returned to us within seconds.

Keywords are so important because you want to be one of those sites that are returned. Not just that, you want to be on the first page. Being on the first page will mean more traffic to your business, which should result in a lot more money for you.

Keywords are what help your potential client know that you are what they are looking for. If they type in “how do I hire a good pediatrician?” and your site comes up with that in the title. Yes, they will read more. That is the kind of connection that you want to have with your keywords.

Choosing the right search terms are also very helpful when using pay-per-click(PPC). Certain terms will convert into sales at a much higher rate than others. Which means that you can turn-off the words that aren’t making you money and expand upon those that are.

How do you find keywords that are worth your time? Start by visiting the Google keyword tool. This tool is free and will show you how many searches per month there are for a given term, suggestions for additional terms, and they even allow you to export your keyword list for quick reference.

Critical Tips for Website Design

Keep these basic tips in mind as you start marketing on the internet. Common knowledge for many, but often overlooked.

Invest in a simple, yet professional website. I know it’s tempting to have your son/employee/best friend, throw something together for you, but your image is at stake. Those links need to work. You need your site to load fast and look the same in every browser. Pay a professional.

Have an easy to spell domain name. Why? So that people can remember, even without writing it down. Think elementary school easy. If possible, your domain should also include your most important keywords. If you are a beauty salon in Detroit, Michigan. Then you’ll want to register the name of your salon as well as a domain with the keywords. (Example: Register BeautySalonMichigan.com)

An entire page just to say welcome – probably isn’t necessary. Keep it as a simple introduction in the first paragraph. You may want to forgo a welcome and instead jump right into what your company can do for them. That’s what the visitor really wants to know!

Make the phone number of your business easy to find. Web visitors can be a little lazy and will backclick to find another site very quickly. Some visitors will read thru all of your content. Some will simply seek out the phone number and give you a call right away. Having an ‘email only’ option can be a mistake if your building the business. You need to hear what they have to say. It will make your website better and faster.

Less than 5 years ago, everyone turned to the YelloW Pages to find and check out a business. I had a friend who would keep the Yellow Pages from past years to reference how long a business, had been in business. He had quite a stack….

Today people turn to the internet, so make your site an easy one to buy from and get the information that they need.
